Unrecognized Layers Collection 2020-21 created during the Covid-19 pandemic, when I did not have access to my studio, this collection grew out of a need to keep making with whatever space and materials were available to me. Working on small pieces of paper and canvas, I turned to acrylic, collage, layering, and repetition to explore memory, emotion, and the passage of time.
These fourteen intimate works, each approximately 11 × 8 inches, became a quiet record of that period. Works such as Steps of Time, Reserved Life, Forgotten Garden, Hopes Vomiting, and Zagros bring together fragments of color, texture, line, and botanical imagery. Their small scale reflects the circumstances in which they were made, while the layers hold the uncertainty, isolation, and moments of hope that shaped that time.
